John,
Right now, we have just three weeks to prepare for the largest youth-led global demonstration in history: the global climate strike. On September 20th, millions of people around the world will all be walking out of school and work on the same day. Together we’ll capture the nation’s attention and make it clear that any political leader hoping for our generation’s support -- any Presidential candidate, member of Congress, or state or local representative -- needs to take action on this crisis right now by joining us in our fight for a Green New Deal.
In order to pull this off, we need thousands of youth leaders who are ready to get to work planning and recruiting for the strike in every town and city in the US, including yours.
Get all the skills and tools you need to become one of those leaders and bring the global climate strike to your community. Come to the Northeast Summit, September 7-9th in Providence, RI.
Looking back, history shows us that societal transformation only comes when millions of people take to the streets to demand it.
So on September 20th, that’s exactly what we’ll do. When we strike by the millions in every town and city in the US, we will disrupt the expected day-to-day functioning of society, making our movement and our demands impossible to ignore.
We know we can do it. But getting there will take lots of hard work. To start, we’re going to need teams of strike captains in every corner of the country. Strike captains will be in charge of local recruitment, spreading the word about the strike in their schools, workplaces, and communities. They’ll also plan sit-ins and rallies to take place on the day of the strike, where they’ll target local political leaders and demand they join our fight for a Green New Deal.
And that’s where you come in. For the strike to succeed, we need you to build a team of strike captains in your town. And you can get all the skills you need to do it by coming to the Northeast Summit:
At the summit, hundreds of young people from all across the Northeast will come together to connect, strategize, and train to become leaders in the fight for a livable future. For the first two days of the summit, we’ll gather at Rhode Island College to train. Those new to Sunrise will learn about our history, strategy, and plan to win a Green New Deal. Meanwhile, others will get the chance to choose from 18 different specialized breakout trainings on skills like recruitment, creative action planning, press and media, public speaking, and more.
At the end of day 2, we’ll all come together for a workshop on how to strike. There, you’ll get all the details of our plan for the global climate strike, including the skills and tools you need to build a team of strike captains in your town and plan a powerful strike-day event.
This is your chance to make history. Get all the training and mentorship you need to lead the climate strike in your community by joining the Northeast Summit, September 7-9th in Providence, RI.
I hope to see you there.
