Re: November: 90 Days Out
I wanted to give you an update on the state of play with the general election only 90 days away.
Our formula for victory is simple:
First, we engage with and organize our activated base.
Second, we mobilize low-propensity pro-choice voters who don’t usually turn out to vote at high rates.
Finally, we flip soft-partisan women voters who are disgusted with the GOP’s radicalization on abortion.
Achieving these goals begins at the grassroots. Grassroots organizing is how NARAL was built. It isn’t cheap or easy, but it works. And this year, we’re facing the extra challenge of doing it all digitally, on the phones, and by mail. This major shift in our organizing methods means we need to invest in tools and resources differently. For example:
- $50 will enable an organizer to text 1,000 voters
- $100 will make it possible to send voter registration forms to 150 voters
- $250 will set up a virtual campaign office for hundreds of volunteers
- $500 provides access to tools like Zoom for virtual interaction between organizers and activists
Our plan in the weeks ahead is to reach 3.9 million voters in our Game-Changer States: Arizona, Colorado, Iowa, Maine, Michigan, and Minnesota — all states that will shape the national election and make a difference up and down the ballot.
The GOP knows their efforts to advance their agenda of control, including ending legal abortion, will likely hurt them at the polls come November. It’s why they’re resorting to disinformation tactics to confuse and ultimately sway critical soft-partisan women and low-propensity voters. In all of our target states, our advantage is mobilizing women voters, especially those who are pro-choice but don’t always vote that way. These voters will decide these states.
That’s why NARAL designed our 2020 strategy to specifically target and inoculate these key voters against disinformation tactics, turn them out at the polls, and drive Trump and his extreme lawmaker allies out of office.
What we are doing works. We have moved the needle on public opinion. Even a majority of Republicans now oppose right-wing attempts to exploit COVID-19 to restrict abortion. Support for Roe has reached 77%.
But the bottom line is that we can’t win in November without our members. We can’t do it without a substantial and, equally important, early infusion of resources. Four more years of Trump would be catastrophic — even worse than the first four have been. The way to beat him and achieve all of our goals is for our most dedicated supporters to dig deep and commit to this fight until victory.
