Major league baseball player endorses the
Energy Innovation Act
Brent Suter, a pitcher for the Milwaukee Brewers baseball team, is concerned about climate change. He says it’s “mission critical for the planet,” and he’s using his platform to speak out. Suter endorsed the Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act in a video message, encouraging his fans and followers to contact Congress about the bill.
Other news this week: Looking good online: You’ve probably noticed that social media is very visual—images, graphics and memes are the name of the game. To help you get in that game, our marketing team has created a set of free graphic design templates! Use these to make a bigger and better impact on your followers, friends, and members of Congress. Check out the templates and this training to help you update them. Gen Z GOP: There’s a new political podcast on the scene called “Gen Z GOP.” The hosts are four college-aged Republicans ready to discuss the party’s future. Their vision includes "a GOP that pursues climate change solutions that harness American innovation and create clean energy jobs." Check out their promo video on Twitter, and find the show wherever you listen to podcasts. |

Take action this week
If you have a little time: Make a splash on social media with us. On August 12, United Nations International Youth Day, young people in CCL are coordinating a Twitter “Thunderclap,” where lots of people post the same message around the same time. For this Thunderclap, the message is: “Climate legislation is essential to reversing the existential crisis that threatens today’s youth. <@YourRep>, please act on this important issue! What will you do to protect our planet? #ClimateThunderclap #InternationalYouthDay”. (Just replace <@YourRep> with your member of Congress’ Twitter handle.) Everyone can participate by posting the tweet at 9 a.m. PT. You can also help out by browsing the #ClimateThunderclap hashtag and amplifying other tweets with likes and supportive comments. If you have more time: Connect with the youth in your life on climate change. If you know teenagers or college students, invite them to join CCL’s August national meeting this Saturday. If they’re interested, you could also invite them to join either CCL’s Youth Action Team for middle and high school students or CCL’s Higher Ed Action Team for college students. You can also connect with your nearest CCL chapter to take action in your community, or join one of CCL’s national online Action Teams to take action on specific topics like agriculture, health, faith, and more. Browse CCL Community’s Event Calendar to find upcoming events, trainings, and calls you can join. |

Grassroots: Connect with LGBTQA community
Want to do grassroots climate outreach to the LGBTQA community? CCL’s LGBTQA + Allies Action Team met last week, guided by team leaders Stacey, Brielle and Melissa (pictured). The team has opportunities for volunteers who are willing to make phone calls, send some personalized emails, and boost the team’s social media presence. All of this will help as the team works to lobby and educate the Congressional LGBTQ Equality Caucus on the intersections of climate action and social justice. Join the team on CCL Community if you’d like to get involved. If you’d like to learn more about doing grassroots outreach, watch or read these trainings on connecting with other specific communities.
