The “SAVE America” Act is being sold as “election security.” Here’s the reality:
Claim: The Act cleans up voter rolls.
Fact: Expanding federal mandates and documentation requirements increases the risk of wrongful voter purges and administrative errors. Eligible voters could be removed simply because the paperwork doesn’t match, without even being notified.
Claim: The Act is simply preventive.
Fact: “Preventive” should not mean disenfranchising eligible Americans. Millions of citizens lack easy access to passports or certified birth certificates. Women who changed their names, seniors, students, military families, and low-income Americans would face new barriers.
Claim: The Act creates national consistency.
Fact: States already verify voter eligibility using existing systems. This bill overrides those processes with rigid federal mandates that many voters are not prepared to meet.
Claim: The Act strengthens election integrity.
Fact: Americans already affirm their citizenship under penalty of perjury when registering. More paperwork won’t strengthen democracy; it will restrict access.
Claim: The Act restores trust.
Fact: Trust is built through transparency and truth, not by making it harder for eligible citizens to vote.
This is not about security. It’s about access to the ballot.
