John --

We are thrilled to announce Connie Rice as an advisor to our Campaign for Human Security. Our campaign challenges the notion that security is rooted in military action and seeks to protect Americans from threats to their individual safety and wellbeing.

Connie Rice is an award-winning civil rights lawyer and co-founder of the Advancement Project, a civil rights organization that promotes racial equity and opportunities for all Californians. In this crucial juncture in the fight for racial justice in America, sparked by the murder of George Floyd, Connie has yet again risen to the occasion.

This past week, LAPD announced the expansion of the Community Safety Partnership (CSP) program, which Connie co-founded in 2011. The CSP is a community policing program that adopts a “guardian” approach to policing instead of a “warrior” approach by building trust and relationships with residents.

Connie’s efforts to provide alternative approaches to strong-armed policing is exactly the kind of solutions that our Campaign for Human Security proposes.
