Dear John,

The test of any advocacy campaign is simple: is it making life better for the people it was built to serve? That is the standard we’re holding ourselves to at 50CAN as we work to usher in a new wave of educational opportunity. As you will see in our new annual report ([link removed]) , it is the standard we ask you to use in judging our work.

All of our advocacy campaigns are powered by a simple conviction: that the sphere of educational equality must keep expanding. We believe that every family should be able to choose the school that is right for their child, that no student who falls behind should go without the tutoring and support needed to catch up, and that every young person should have access to the academic and career pathways that lead to a strong future.

Across the states in our network, the signs of progress are encouraging. Our state teams are securing a growing number of policy wins and the ideas behind them enjoy broad support from parents. And these policies are working. In CAN states, school satisfaction rose five times faster than the national average, and student achievement outpaced non-CAN states across every grade and subject measured by NAEP, the Nation’s Report Card.
