John,

We’ve come to expect the unexpected from Donald Trump and his discrimination administration, but even we are surprised by his latest move. Now, during the biggest public health crisis we have faced in a century, Trump is trying to stop efforts to make sure the Census Bureau has enough time to conduct the census fully.

Tell the Senate: fully fund the 2020 census and extend deadlines for reporting data -- our community resources are on the line.

The census comes only once every decade, but shapes how the country functions for years after. The Census Bureau is tasked by the Constitution with counting every single person that calls our country home--regardless of race, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, or immigration status. Trump can’t change that. And yet, the Trump administration wants to close the census early, halting the count for purely political reasons.

If the census ends early, real people will be denied the political power and crucial resources they need. We cannot let Trump’s fear mongering and manipulation lead to undercounting vulnerable communities. Our futures and livelihood are too important.

The Constitution is clear: everyone living in the U.S. must be counted in the census. Trump doesn’t have the power to change that -- and we won’t allow his scare tactics to keep resources out of our neighborhoods by undercounting, especially in vulnerable communities like ours.

It’s time for the Senate to listen to our calls: fully fund the 2020 census AND extend deadlines for reporting data -- to ensure everyone is counted. A decade of funding and representation is at stake.

Sincerely,
