My name is Shikha Hamilton (that's me in the Brady t-shirt above) and I have been with Brady for more than 20 years. I started as a grassroots volunteer. And I am writing to you because I know how we can defeat the NRA’s stranglehold on gun laws.
It's our grassroots volunteers. You.
I know this firsthand, overseeing our grassroots power when we flipped the U.S. House in 2018 and then the Virginia state legislature last year. We united to vote out NRA-politicians and elect gun safety champions — and ours wins were historic! We truly cannot be defeated when we unite. But right now, with Election Day around the corner, we need to mobilize like never before. We need to ensure everyone can safely vote so that we can elect leaders who will put our lives ahead of the gun lobby.
I have spent these past few months during the pandemic working to build a new grassroots volunteer program at Brady, called Democracy Organizers. And I'm asking you to join our team. We’re looking for volunteers who can dedicate 5-7 hours a week help us fight for urgently-needed voting reforms. Can you join our Democracy Organizer grassroots volunteer team?
As a Democracy Organizer, you’ll receive hands-on training and assistance on how to activate your own team of volunteers. Your mission: to mobilize for vital voting reforms in your state. We are contacting governors, state legislators, election officials, and more to advocate for common-sense solutions like expanded mail-in voting, expanded absentee and early voting, and the provision of PPE for poll workers.
John, I know 5-7 hours a week is a big time commitment. But we are up against a tight timeline (just 90 days until Election Day) and a national leader (Donald Trump) who will do anything to suppress our votes. If you join our team as a Democracy Organizer, you will help save our elections. You will help ensure we elect gun safety champions to statehouses, Congress, and the White House. It’s how we can pass laws that will save lives.
As Martin Luther King, Jr. said, the “fierce urgency of now” is upon us. We cannot wake up the morning after Election Day wishing that we had done more. Please, join me and our team of grassroots volunteers, and let’s take back our country from the NRA’s stranglehold.
