Friends,
For over a month, Congressional Democrats have kept the Department of Homeland Security partially shut down. At a time when threats against the United States are increasing, this political stunt is reckless.
The danger we face today did not appear overnight. Millions of illegal aliens entered the United States under the Biden Administration with no proper vetting process. Some are violent criminals. Some are members of dangerous gangs such as MS-13 and Tren de Aragua. Others may have ties to terrorist organizations. It only takes one to carry out a deadly attack.
That is why weakening our homeland security infrastructure right now is so irresponsible. Yet Democrats in Congress are doing exactly that.
Read my op-ed in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel: "Homeland Security Shutdown Is a National Security Threat."
Sincerely,
Scott Fitzgerald Member of Congress
Childcare Relief for Working Families
Raising a family today comes with real challenges. Whether you’re a parent returning to the workforce, a family pursuing adoption, or a small business owner providing on-site childcare, there are options available to help you.
I voted to pass the Working Families Tax Cuts last year because it supports families in Wisconsin by:
- Enhancing and making permanent the Child Tax Credit to $2,200 per child, indexed for inflation.
- Making adoption affordable. For the first time, we made up to $5,000 of the Adoption Tax Credit refundable.
- Modernizing paid leave. We made the Paid Family and Medical Leave Tax Credit permanent and expanded it to all 50 states.
- Cutting care costs. We increased the maximum Child and Dependent Care Credit rate from 35% to 50%.
- Empowering small business childcare. We increased the maximum credit for employers to $500,000 (and $600,000 for small businesses).
