"Women achieve equality in life and in politics when they succeed based on merit, not because a man decides that a woman should have a job."

** Joe Biden’s "Women’s Agenda" Would Not Result in a Future Women Want ([link removed])
------------------------------------------------------------
Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden released "The Biden Agenda for Women," his plan for setting today’s American women free from the shackles of the patriarchy. Too bad for Biden that American women are already empowered enough to recognize that his plan is insulting. It relegates women to victim status, suggesting we have no agency over our lives and careers, and no personal responsibility for our outcomes ([link removed]) . Worse, the policies he advances are a mix of rehashed, one-size-fits-all government dictates and taxpayer-funded giveaways that women will recognize as a recipe for a stagnant economy, and less opportunity and choice.

** New Executive Orders on Drug Prices ([link removed])
------------------------------------------------------------

Recently, President Trump issued four executive orders related to prescription drug prices. The first three orders were effective on July 24, 2020. The fourth executive order, which concerns drug prices for Medicare Part B drugs, has a delayed effective date. It calls for a change in the purchase price of those Part B drugs ([link removed]) under what the President called a most favored nation status (MFN) provision. A MFN is a contract provision that assures the buyer that they are getting the lowest price that the seller has agreed to with other buyers. As with all things health insurance, it’s a bit more complicated than it appears.

** Unemployment Benefits ([link removed])
------------------------------------------------------------
Unemployment benefits are meant to be a temporary cushion—not a lifestyle—for American workers who have lost their incomes. In response to the coronavirus pandemic, Congress increased and extended UI benefits to help people who could not—or were fearful to—return to work.

Can you identify which of the following is not true about unemployment insurance benefits/payments?

A: All unemployed workers receive unemployment insurance payments.
B: Unemployment insurance is not meant to completely replace a person’s income.
C: The CARES Act’s $600 additional unemployment benefit creates a disincentive to work.

** Doctor Canceled From His Own Charity for Objecting to Riots ([link removed])
------------------------------------------------------------
Dr. David Tucker is the son of tenor opera legend Richard Tucker. While he wanted to pursue a career in the arts, his father demanded he become a doctor. Dr. Tucker obtained a degree from Cornell University’s Medical College and launched his career as an officer in the U.S. Public Health Service at the National Institutes of Health, doing research on infectious diseases during the Vietnam War. Despite his long list of accomplishments in the medical field, one of his proudest roles was serving as a founding board member of his father’s namesake nonprofit, The Richard Tucker Music Foundation. But on July 20, Dr. Tucker was tragically canceled from his role on the foundation’s board. Effective immediately.

** Street Painting: The Latest Hypocrisy of the Woke Left ([link removed])
------------------------------------------------------------
Many on the left don’t believe that the rules (or laws) apply to them and we can see why. Social justice warriors are getting away with wrongdoing because it is “woke” for government agencies to show deference to favored socially conscious political causes. The latest example of this hypocrisy: a blue line on the road. Staten Island artist Scott LoBaido painted a blue line about the width of a yellow street line on the median strip in front of a local police precinct to show his solidarity with the police department. Instead of elected officials flocking for photo-ops in front of the line, the Department of Transportation threatened legal action against him. Why? He did not obtain a permit before painting the art.

** What Does the Rise of the Pandemic Pod Mean for the Future of Education? ([link removed])
------------------------------------------------------------
American education is headed for a watershed showdown in the coming month, with many schools announcing they will continue distance learning through the early fall, and many more keeping parents in a holding pattern as they await the verdict from district leaders. Pods—"co-quarantined" small groups of children from multiple households with a single teacher or tutor—offer the promise of both safety and learning. With most states still free of the most extreme lockdown conditions of several months ago, pods seem like a Phase II or III solution for many families. Pods are actually a return to a more traditional American recipe for education: parents in the driver’s seat and educators as willing, but ultimately subordinate, partners who offer their expertise and guidance.
