Dear John,
Tonight, I am asking you to sign two important petitions.
As you know, CAA has been at the very forefront of dealing with the antisemitism that the performer known as Wiley spewed onto social media.
The Cabinet Office has now confirmed ([link removed][UNIQID]) to us that they are reviewing Wiley’s MBE, we are working with the Metropolitan Police Service to ensure that he is prosecuted ([link removed][UNIQID]) , we have campaigned successfully along with the support of so many of you to force Twitter ([link removed][UNIQID]) , Instagram, Facebook ([link removed][UNIQID]) and YouTube
([link removed][UNIQID]) to ban him from their platforms, and we have asked the Ivors Academy to withdraw ([link removed][UNIQID]) the prestigious award he was given.
It should not have been this hard to remove Wiley from social media and to have his MBE reviewed, and that is where we need your help.
CAA believes that social media giants must be regulated because the incident with Wiley adds to a mountain of evidence that social networks cannot be trusted to act against antisemitism on their own.
We also believe that recipients of MBEs and other honours should be stripped of their honours if they engage in racism.
We have submitted two official Parliamentary petitions to bring change about.
We need you and 10 friends to sign each petition. Please help us.
The first petition calls for a new law to urgently introduce a requirement for technology companies to remove racist incitement within set timeframes, a duty of care for social networks with personal liability for executives, and tighter requirements to provide evidence to police under warrant. This would bring Britain into alignment with other countries leading the fight against online hatred. At the moment, these measures might not be introduced until 2024, or not at all.
Sign the first petition now ([link removed][UNIQID])
The second petition calls for the Honours Forfeiture Committee to automatically revoke honours that have been awarded to people who later engage in racism, and to hold any deliberations in public, like a tribunal.
Sign the second petition now ([link removed][UNIQID])
If each petition reaches 10,000 signatures, the Government will be forced to respond. If each petition reached 100,000 signatures, Parliament will be asked to debate these proposals.
If we are to deter antisemites, it is vitally important that Jew-haters, be they prominent or obscure, are made to face the full consequences of their actions. CAA will do whatever it takes to protect Britain’s Jews. It is why we are here.
Please help us by signing both petitions and asking your family and friends to sign too. We are dependent on you for success.
Thank you for your support,
Gideon Falter
Chief Executive
