Jack,

Welcome to Sustainer Sunday — a new series featuring stories from the
people who are powering our campaign to create permanent affordability in
Wisconsin.

Meet Steve Caves from Dodge County:

I met Fran on November 1st at an event in Beaver Dam. After listening to
her speak for 15 minutes, I felt like my political ship had come in. I had
no intentions of joining anyone's campaign team, but after hearing her
speak, I turned to her campaign manager and said: "The spirit is calling
me to help this woman win."

I was 100% in agreement with Fran's platform. I felt what was in her
heart. I was amazed at her boldness and passion she had to help the
marginalized, the poor, the middle class, and the working people. The
biggest thing I felt was: "She is one of us."

When I finally had a chance to speak with Fran one on one, I looked her
square in the eyes and said: "Your intelligence will win you this
election."

When I heard her speak, I said to myself, Fran is "close enough to
perfect" for me.

I've lived in Mayville almost my whole life and born in Beaver Dam, only a
few blocks from where I met Fran. I was in the petroleum business my whole
life — I sold fuel around Dodge County to farmers, commercial accounts and
provided heating oil and propane to homeowners. My parents owned Caves Oil
Company out of Mayville. I grew up in the business.

This election could be life and death for some people. I think about my
friend who died because he wouldn't go to the hospital over a high
deductible. I think about people who are suicidal and can't get mental
health care, and people in the LGBTQ community who can't get their needs
met. I'm doing this for the younger generation, so they have the same
standard of living I had when I was young.
