Dear John,

3,000 dead fish. Closed beaches along Indiana Dunes National Park. Those were the headlines one year ago when steelmaker ArcelorMittal spewed cyanide and ammonia into the East Branch of the Little Calumet River – which empties directly into Lake Michigan.
This serial polluter is back. ArcelorMittal violated their ammonia limits in both June and July of 2020 and failed their toxicity testing in May and June 2020. It looks like a pattern, right?

ArcelorMittal must be held fully accountable for its hundreds of Clean Water Act violations in the last few years and for the damage to our Great Lakes. A slap on the wrist isn’t enough!

That's why ELPC took ArcelorMittal to court. In December 2019, we sued to ensure ArcelorMittal pays a fine large enough to finally change their environmental practices and modernize their equipment to reduce pollution.
