Dear John,
Reaching the summit of Mount Everest is a lifetime goal for many mountaineers. And for me, displaying a Tibetan flag atop the sacred mountain as a symbol of oneness with the people of Tibet made our 2007 expedition all the more meaningful.
That’s because I believe in the Tibetan cause, and I’m a fellow supporter of the International Campaign for Tibet, like you. I’m glad to write you today, knowing you share my appreciation and commitment to the people of Tibet.
Together, our community of compassion is working to bring peace and justice to Tibet. A key part of this is preserving Tibetan culture—and giving Tibetans themselves the power to protect it.
John, I’m asking you to join me in supporting The Rowell Fund for Tibet and helping meet the $50,000 goal for programs that empower Tibetans to preserve their language, history, culture and religion.

The Rowell Fund—named for my dear friends Galen and Barbara Rowell, who were champions of the Tibetan people—provides grants to Tibetans leading innovative projects to ensure the survival of their culture. Past grantees have done incredible work on everything from environmental protection to journalism and Tibetan literature, from women’s empowerment to photography—all informed by the unique culture of Tibet.
Here’s how your support of The Rowell Fund and other empowerment programs can help Tibetans accomplish inspiring projects that matter:
- Your gift of $50 can help Tibetan Buddhist nuns attend religious teachings.
- Your gift of $75 can teach the next generation of Tibetan children about their history and language.
- Your gift of $100 can document the lifestyle of Tibetan nomads through photography.
- Your gift of $150 can go towards projects that preserve and enhance the fragile Tibetan environment.
Additionally, with your gift of any amount today, you’ll receive a special Empower Tibet briefing that will show you the difference your support makes for the Tibetan people.

Like mountaineering, our work to preserve Tibetan culture is going to require serious planning, trust and teamwork. But together, John, we can help Tibetans keep their culture alive in the face of China’s efforts to erase it.
Thank you for standing with Tibetans.
Sincerely,

Conrad Anker
Rowell Fund Advisory Board Member
P.S. ICT’s work for Tibet needs significant funding from people like you and me—that’s why I’ve donated to ICT for over 20 years. Will you help Tibetans keep their unique culture alive by helping us reach our goal for Tibetan empowerment?
