In an interview that aired Monday, Donald Trump once again exposed how petulant, narcissistic, and racist he is.
Reporter:
“John Lewis is lying in state in the U.S. Capitol. How do you think history will remember John Lewis?”
Trump:
“I don’t know. I really don’t know. Uh, I don’t know. Uh, I don’t know John Lewis. Uh, he chose not to come to my, uh, uh, inauguration. Uh, he chose, uh, I, I don’t, uh, I never met John Lewis actually, I don’t believe.”
Reporter:
“Do you find him impressive?”
Trump:
“Uh, I can’t say one way or the other. I find a lot of people impressive. I find many people not impressive. But, no.”
Reporter:
“Do you find his story impressive?”
Trump:
“He didn’t come to my inauguration. He didn’t come to my State of the Union speeches.”
Rep. John Lewis — who died last month — is a civil rights icon and hero to millions upon millions of Americans.
Lewis was among the key leaders of the civil rights movement.
On March 7, 1965 — the day known as Bloody Sunday — police in Selma, Alabama, beat Lewis nearly to death, splitting his skull open, after he and other peaceful marchers stopped to pray.
Lewis was elected to the United States House of Representatives 17 times.
John Lewis is the first Black congressperson to lie in state in the Capitol Rotunda — where Trump refused to visit and pay his respects.
We call on every member of Congress to denounce Donald Trump’s disrespect for their longtime colleague and American icon John Lewis.
