Dear John: Today marks 90 days until Election Day, November 3rd, and there is no way to make this more clear: This is the most critical election of our lifetime. For the next 90 days, we’re going to be talking about all things election, and making sure that you and your LGBTQ+ loved ones, your family, and your community have the trusted tools and resources you need to go to the polls--and get others to join you--confidently, safely, and with equality and justice top of mind. Our Election 2020 resources--which you can find on our website at pflag.org/pflagvotes2020--focus on four crucial aspects of work to ensure a fair, safe election. Registration. Are you registered to vote? Are your family members, friends and neighbors? Bottom line: If you’re not registered, you can’t vote, and it’s important that you do so now--and then help others to do it, too! Education. Education is one of the three crucial pillars of PFLAG's work, and that includes education about the upcoming election. Learn more about important dates and deadlines, stay up-to-date about COVID-19-related changes to the election, and learn more about what is truly at stake for your LGBTQ+ loved ones this November. Mobilization. Inspiring voters in your community is key to getting big numbers of people to the polls, and ensuring that everyone who wants to cast a ballot has access and opportunity to do so, on--or before--November 3. We've got tools and resources to help you mobilize your loved ones and community, and get out the vote. Protection. Protecting the vote has never been more important--or more difficult. We’ve got resources and information to protect yourself and others who experience difficulties while trying to cast a ballot; to fight against voter suppression; to protect the U.S. Post Office in service of vote-by-mail, and to help you vote with personal safety in mind. Registration. Education. Mobilization. Protection. Whether you commit to working deeply on one of these issues--or want to broaden your efforts across all four--you can count on PFLAG National to give you the information, tools, and resources you need to vote, and help others to vote, too. Visit pflag.org/pflagvotes2020 to get started. Thank you in advance for your work during the next 90 days; we don’t have a moment to spare! Brian K. Bond, Executive Director PFLAG National P.S. This election--and every election--is so important, PFLAG National staff members will now have Election Day off as a paid holiday so that they can safely vote--and help get out the vote in their own community. This is just another way PFLAG National is working to get out the vote in service of equality! |
