As Portland recovers from Trump's unconstitutional invasion, I want to share this video with you from my discussion with Ali Velshi on MSNBC.

What happened in Portland was neither law nor order: it was a politically motivated, violent display of authoritarianism. We will not allow Trump to get away with turning our beautiful city into a grim backdrop for his campaign ads.

Although the federal officers are finally retreating, there is still much work to do to fully address decades of systemic racism, police brutality, and inequity in our communities and across the country. This moment is a turning point in history – we have an opportunity to correct our course, and we must rise to the challenge.

Portland will always stand up for what we believe in, and so will I. Now we must return to the work of building a better future founded in equity and justice.
