Friend,

The journalism industry is facing its worst year since the Great Recession.

Thousands of journalists have been laid off at CNN, HuffPost, Buzzfeed, VICE, ThinkProgress and daily newspapers across the country including the Arizona Republic, Indianapolis Star, Dallas Morning-News, North Jersey Record, and many others.

Sometimes it seems like it would be easier to list the media outlets that HAVEN’T seen layoffs this year, as giant corporate conglomerates squeeze out greater profits at the expense of news.

Common Dreams hasn’t seen those kinds of “bloodbath” layoffs—but we could if we don’t hit our fundraising goals.

You see, we operate on a different model from these other news outlets. We’re independent, non-profit journalists who rely on your donations, not some greedy corporate overlord.

To stay strong, we need you to keep standing with us, friend. Will you donate to help us raise the remaining $19,000 of our crucial Summer Campaign goal by the end of FRIDAY?

We can’t afford to come up short.

DONATE NOW

With gratitude,

Kimberly Monaghan
