Right now in America, about 30 million people are unemployed. That's 20 percent of our country's workforce.

Since Congress passed the CARES Act in March to provide much needed financial relief to workers and small businesses impacted by the coronavirus pandemic, those forced out of work were able to collect an additional $600 per week in unemployment assistance to help them pay the bills and get by.

But that lifeline expired last Friday, and the Senate has yet to pass any legislation to extend those benefits, leaving tens of millions of workers in limbo.

This is catastrophic for those who've lost their jobs or been furloughed and are now struggling to survive. While the Democratic-led House successfully passed the HEROES Act in May to extend these unemployment benefits and provide additional assistance to small businesses and frontline workers, the Senate has simply refused to vote on it.

Despite the benefits' expiration date, Republican Majority Leader Mitch McConnell had Senators take two three-day weekends in a row without a single vote on relief legislation.

It's time for the GOP to stop playing political games with people's lives. Will you join Cory in demanding the Senate pass more pandemic relief and extend unemployment benefits to support those suffering the most right now?

Together, we can put the pressure on those in power to listen to their constituents and help the most vulnerable during this destructive pandemic.
