Facing Eviction during the COVID-19 Crisis
Across Virginia, more than 1 in 3 renters are unable to pay rent and at risk of eviction
"'It's like nothing we've ever seen,' said John Pollock, coordinator of the National Coalition for a Civil Right to Counsel.

In 2016, there were 2.3 million evictions, Pollock said. 'There could be that many evictions in August,' he said."
Ten bucks left, no place to go: How the pandemic and a broken unemployment system are upending people's lives
"The end of July meant the end of the initial round of federal emergency pandemic assistance."
"The causes of family homelessness have a simple determinant—incomes have not kept pace with housing costs. Since 1960, rents nationwide have risen by 61% while renters' average incomes have only increased by 5%." —Family Promise, 2018
People of color face mass homelessness as eviction moratoriums end
"Black and brown Americans—the very people who are more likely to succumb to coronavirus or lose their jobs because of it—are disproportionately on the brink of also losing the four walls that public health officials have repeatedly told everyone to hide behind, according to a Center for Public Integrity analysis."

"You can't shelter-in-place if you don't have a place to shelter."
