Hi Friend,
As the current reckoning with racial justice lays bare, we don't live in an equitable country or world. The privileges and disadvantages perpetuated by systemic racism are evident in education, poverty levels, criminal justice and policing -- and are impossible to ignore.
UNICEF USA supporters like you step up to help protect children in Yemen, Syria and Guatemala, because they need us. But we know you care about children here at home too, and that's why we must address the fact that too many children -- children like Tamir Rice -- face discrimination, violence and even death because of systemic racism.
We all have a role to play in making our communities safe for all children. Here are two ways to start:
1) Make your city child-friendly. The UNICEF-led Child Friendly Cities Initiative (CFCI) supports local governments in realizing the rights of every child. Around the world, we're bringing together governments with civil society organizations, the private sector, academia, media and, importantly, children themselves who wish to make their communities more child-friendly.

2) Advocate for the Justice in Policing Act. Systemic racism and police violence against Black people and other people of color pose a severe risk to children and the communities they grow up in. One step on the path toward reimagining communities that are safe, just and inclusive for every child is the passage of the Justice in Policing Act.
