Congressional Progressive Caucus Center staff unionize
Staff at the Congressional Progressive Caucus Center (CPC Center) is joining the Nonprofit Professional Employees Union (NPEU). The Congressional Progressive Caucus Center Union (CPC Center Union) requested voluntary recognition from management, which has indicated they will be moving forward with that process. "We believe in unity and equity and have dedicated our careers to serving and fighting for justice," said the representatives of the CPC Center Union. "We believe that unionizing will help uphold the CPC Center's values and commitment to empowering and strengthening communities of all backgrounds across the nation." The CPC Center works to identify and develop solutions to build a more just, equitable, and resilient nation.
Council Updates: EWL rescheduled; MWC Board vacancy
EWL rescheduled to April 2021: Evening with Labor has been rescheduled to Saturday, April 3, 2021. "We had really hoped to be able to hold this year's Evening with Labor in mid-October," says EWL Committee Chair George Farenthold, "But due to ongoing limitations on gatherings because of the coronavirus pandemic, it's just not possible to do so safely and that of course is still and always our paramount concern." Stay tuned for updates/further details.
MWC Board vacancy: A special election will be held at the October 19 MWC meeting to fill the vacancy created by last month's resignation by UFCW Local 400 president Mark Federici, who stepped down in accordance with the Council's constitution, which bars more than one delegate from the same local holding office (recently-elected MWC president Dyana Forester is a Local 400 delegate). Nominations to fill the vacant Board seat will be held at the September 21 Metro Council meeting.

[link removed] 94-year-old `Rosie the Riveter' once made warplanes and red bandannas. Now she makes face masks with the same cloth (Washington Post)
Mae Krier fondly reminisces about her favorite bandanna she wore while toiling away in the Boeing factory where she helped make B-17 and B-29 warplanes as a teenage girl during World War II. For many years, Krier, now 94,has paid tribute to her beloved Rosie the Riveters by making red bandannas with white polka dots. Since the war against the novel coronavirus started, Krier shifted her energy from making Rosie bandannas to Rosie face masks, cut from the same cotton cloth.
Today's Labor Quote: Mae Krier
"When the war was over, men came home with flags, and Rosie came home with a red slip. We never got any credit or recognition. I didn't think that was fair."
