Crains Detroit: Kentucky governor brings red-state playbook to battleground Michigan
John,
Across the country, Democrats in tough races are looking for a path forward — one that moves past the same old political games and focuses on what actually matters to the people we serve.
Gov. Andy Beshear knows a thing or two about that.
In Kentucky, he won a statewide race in a state that Donald Trump carried by huge margins. And he did it with a simple approach: treat people like people, not numbers on a spreadsheet.
That means talking to voters like adults; using clear language and saying what you mean. Listening to people's concerns and focusing on the issues that actually affect their lives — things like good jobs, strong schools, affordable health care, and safer communities.
It also means refusing to get dragged into the kind of divisive political talking points that dominate cable news but don't solve anyone's problems. It's a common sense approach to leadership. That's the playbook Andy is sharing with Democrats across the country. And most recently, that meant heading to Michigan.
Michigan alone has key congressional races, an open Senate seat, and a gubernatorial race that will help determine the direction of the state for years to come. If we want to keep making progress for working families, we need to keep these seats blue, and elect for-the-people candidates. Andy is doing his part by traveling the country, talking to people on the ground, supporting strong candidates, and sharing the approach that has helped him win tough races, three times.
But winning these races will take all of us stepping up and doing our part, too. So, if you believe in common sense leadership that focuses on people instead of politics, chip in anything you can today to help In This Together PAC support the fights that matter most in Michigan and nationwide.
