John,
Yesterday marked one year since 23 people were senselessly murdered at a shopping center in El Paso, Texas. And this morning marked one year since nine people were murdered in downtown Dayton, Ohio, less than 13 hours after the tragedy in El Paso.
I know all too well that losing a loved one to gun violence never gets easier. Certain moments and milestones leave you absolutely breathless, and my heart breaks for every single one of the families now reliving the day they got the agonizing news that their loved one was never coming home.
That's why today, I hope you'll join me in sending love and comfort to all those affected by these shootings – as well as a promise to never stop taking action to protect other communities from gun violence.

Last year, when I heard about the shootings, I couldn't help but feel angry and defeated – like I'd failed these families. But feeling hopeless won't honor my sweet little Daniel or the 32 people who were murdered in El Paso and Dayton.
That's why on difficult days like today, it's so important that we come together to share our love and support for these families, and to renew our commitment to preventing gun violence. Thank you for all you do to help us save lives.
