We have a responsibility to participate in public life. It's up to us to vote, stay informed, and when necessary, express our misgivings or dissatisfaction with our government by signing petitions, showing up at town halls, offering our opinions, and supporting candidates who align with our beliefs.

President Trump and Republicans in Congress have reminded us how important it is to fulfill our roles as citizens -- and that it does make a difference.

Thanks to the persistence of millions of Americans, we've stopped some of the most terrifying parts of Trump's agenda and advanced some of the most important parts of our Democratic House Majority's agenda. But the role of a citizen doesn't end after a few victories. There's always work to be done.

We need to protect the most vulnerable among us:

The children subjected to the cruel policies at our southern border
The seniors relying on Medicare and Social Security benefits
The families counting on food stamps to put dinner on the table
The Americans waiting for immediate action on gun violence

I'm fighting for these things every day -- but I need you by my side.
