Hi John,
Like many states, New Mexico locked down in an effort to flatten the curve of COVID-19 cases, but business leaders are saying that the government mandates and orders have gone too far. The liberal governor and state leaders are playing with the futures of small businesses – allowing some to remain open and forcing others to keep their doors closed.
Santa Fe New Mexican: "Business leaders grumble that they believe state officials are implementing some orders arbitrarily or unfairly, that the Governor’s Office doesn’t respond to their queries, that the public health directives can be a moving target and confusing to carry out, and that the state should do more to help small businesses."
Safely reopening state economies is imperative for everyone’s wellbeing and futures. Businesses, livelihoods, jobs – they’re all being lost and that will have drastic long term implications. The total shutdowns and arbitrary orders are impacting everything from mental health to the welfare state. There are many ways to safely do business – Americans are historically innovative and creative, imagining new solutions to evolving problems. We will continue to adapt, but the arbitrary overreach needs to end and the government needs to get out of our way.
