Manila’s Commuters Pushed for Safer Streets — and Won ( [link removed] )
**************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************

Nearly everyone in Manila, the Philippines — 94% of residents — gets around by walking, cycling or taking buses. Yet just 1% of the city’s road development budget goes toward public transport, sidewalks and cycle paths. That leaves streets unsafe and difficult to navigate for pedestrians and cyclists.

But things are starting to change. Manila’s residents gathered data, organized rallies and lobbied city leaders for accessible streets, reliable transport and better working conditions for transport workers. Their efforts are paying off, from hundreds of kilometers of new cycle lanes to billions of dollars redirected toward pedestrian-friendly spaces.

******************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************

Climate action isn’t happening nearly fast enough to halt rising temperatures or avert increasingly catastrophic impacts. But leading climate experts say a few strategic shifts could accelerate progress — even amid today’s political and financial landscape.

‘Silvopasture’ May Not Be the Major Climate Solution Some Say It Is ( [link removed] )
***********************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************

Planting trees on cattle pastures, a practice known as “silvopasture,” is gaining traction as a major climate solution in the United States. Estimates say it could offer substantial carbon storage while making farms more productive. Yet new WRI research suggests that in the U.S., silvopasture may not be the simple win-win it’s often claimed to be.

New Climate Plans Put Unprecedented Focus on Ocean, but Miss Biggest Opportunities ( [link removed] )
***************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************

More countries than ever are including ocean-based goals in their new climate plans. But many of these commitments still overlook the actions that would do the most to fight warming — like deploying offshore wind or phasing out offshore oil and gas.

Ocean actions ( [link removed] )

The number of ocean-based actions in countries’ climate plans is increasing. But there’s a heavy skew toward conservation and adaptation rather than using ocean solutions to cut planet-warming emissions.
