Congratulations to the National Association of Hispanic Nurses' (NAHN) 2020 Nurse of the Year, Gina Miranda-Diaz, DNP, MPH, RN. Miranda-Diaz, who serves as a Campaign Outreach Advocate for a Culture of Health, was recognized for her efforts to improve the quality of healthcare in the Hispanic community.
To incorporate newly emerging evidence about the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and nursing’s role in the crisis, the National Academy of Medicine (NAM) has modified its statement of task for the
Future of Nursing 2020-2030
report and postponed the publication’s release from December 2020 until Spring 2021. In addition, the NAM will host an engagement webinar on the topic on August 20, see details below under "Meetings and Webinars."
Hassmiller Authors Professional Development Column
In a guest editorial appearing in the June/July issue of the Journal for Nurses Development, Susan B. Hassmiller, PhD, RN, FAAN, calls out impacts of the pandemicthat need immediate and sustained attention by professional development practitioners in nursing. Hassmiller is director of the Future of Nursing: Campaign for Action, an initiative of AARP Foundation, AARP and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
Key to Addressing Population Health Starts with Nurses' Assessment

report, the researchers lay out a comprehensive plan, that has become even more important amidst COVID-19, to help all nurses address health equity using assessment as a starting point.

addresses two critical points: the need for nurses to advocate for better data collection, during COVID-19 and beyond, and the nursing community's responsibility to understand how their interpretation of data contributes to population health.
With its latest episode, the Pennsylvania Action Coalition's At of Core of Care podcast completes a two-part series about the ways nurses are improving the experiences of refugees receiving healthcare in Pennsylvania. Travelling from Erie to Lancaster, Sarah Hexem Hubbard, executive director of the PA Action Coalition, asks the question of nurses and other community stakeholders, "How do newly settled refugees and immigrants in Pennsylvania get health care?"
With its latest webinar, Leveraging the Power of Nurses: Promoting Health Equity through a Framework of Cultural Humility, the Campaign for Action launched the first in a series of events designed to support nurses in their ongoing efforts to improve health for all, reduce racial disparities in the United States, and understand cultures that differ from one another.

Complete Survey to Assess APRN Practice Barriers During COVID-19
All advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) are invited to participate in a 10-15 minute national survey conducted by nurse researchers from Vanderbilt University, the University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center, and the University of Tennessee regarding the impact of COVID-19 on APRN practice, roles, and patient care.

Calling all registered nurses (RNs) and advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs): have you served for at least one year on a board of directors with fiduciary responsibilities? You may be eligible to participate in a study, approved by the University of Massachusetts Boston Institutional Review Board, to test an instrument aimed at measuring the engagement of nurses on boards.
