Dear John,
As the beginning of the new school year approaches (or for some of you, has started already), we wanted to welcome you back and give you a preview of what we have planned this fall for you and your students. Whether you are starting back in person, in a virtual classroom environment, or a combination of the two, we have tools you can use to stay flexible, adaptable, and engaged.
Kirk and Gary have provided updates in this new video. Here are some of the highlights:
- Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness, our new, free digital U.S. History resource has been released. You can sign up for a free account here.
- We are releasing at least two videos a week during the school year, including new webinars, scholar talks with many of the scholars from Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness, and close readings of primary sources with BRI staff and guests. We are also releasing new Homework Help videos in the coming weeks on Federalism, Incorporation, and the landmark Supreme Court case of Plessy v. Ferguson. Subscribe to our YouTube channel for notifications of all new releases.
- We are less than three months from election day and to keep your students engaged, we will be releasing a new Think the Vote debate topic every week starting next week until the November 3rd election. By taking a stand on an issue and engaging in civil online debate with their peers from across the country, your students (and you) can win prizes and BRI swag.
- We are still hoping to offer in-person programming at locations across the country, but are prepared to "go virtual" if necessary. Either way, you can expect the same excellent scholar-led talks, ready-to-use classroom resources, networking with other teachers from your region, and PD credits. Check the website to find out if we are coming to your area.
- Finally, in order to stay current with all of this and more, make sure that your profile is up-to-date and you are subscribed to BOTH our biweekly Educator newsletter (every other Tuesday) and our eLesson email (every other Thursday).
All teachers who update their BRI profiles before 5 p.m. ET on Friday, August 7, 2020, will be entered into a drawing to win one of three $50 Amazon gift cards and swag for you and your students.
Warm Regards,
Your Friends at the Bill of Rights Institute
