John,
The Movement for Black Lives introduced a sweeping bill last month to radically address police violence and transform the criminal legal system.
The BREATHE Act is a road map for the changes we need, but with our current Congress – our chances to pass this bill are limited. But we cannot wait for action. Luckily many of the policies in this bill can be implemented at the local level with or without Congress.
In order to understand how we can work locally to do our part for racial justice we must recognize our own power, and what we can do with that power. Often, we have more power locally than we might think! That’s why we’re hosting a webinar on Thursday as part of our Feminist Futures series with our partners at Race & Resilience to help each of us map out our own personal power and communal power, and leverage that power for racial justice in our local communities.
During the virtual training, we’ll provide an interactive mapping tool for participants to understand and map their own personal, communal, and professional access to power and influence.
Here are just a few of the policies that we can demand at the local level:
This webinar is part of our broader work to train, educate, and organize Women’s Marchers to fight for racial justice in their communities. This summer we hosted four Defund the Police trainings on how to lobby your city council, send letters to the editor of local newspapers, and more.
Now we’re excited to offer this power-mapping training and to support this work through our Women2Women local organizing circles. We’re putting together small teams across the country to build campaigns for racial justice and to defeat Trump. To learn more, join our info session this Thursday after the webinar.
Reserve your spot now for this interactive webinar – you don’t want to miss it.
See you there,
Rachel
