Dear John,
March is Women’s History Month, and this week, we celebrated International Women’s Day. Of course, we remember modern pioneers like Dolores Huerta this month, but there so many women whose leadership was shaped by their immigrant experience. Congresswoman Patsy Takemoto Mink represented Hawai’i across five decades, drawing on the experiences of her Japanese-American family to drive social welfare program expansion efforts on Capitol Hill. Today, leaders like Rep. Ilhan Omar and Pramila Jayapal serve as leading advocates for immigrant families, and Maine Councilwoman Safiya Said Khalid, Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, other women lead the way at the state and local levels. But immigrant women shaping our history don’t have to be elected leaders. From women like Alma Yanira Cruz and Jenny Lisette Flores, whose lawsuit led to reform of immigrant family detention that continues to protect families today to the many women speaking out against ICE brutality in American cities, we applaud the work of women in immigrant families who make this country better every day.

Read more about the RFI on “Comprehensive Regulations to Uncover Suspicious Healthcare (CRUSH)” and the efforts to withhold Medicaid funds from Minnesota, California, Maine and New York on the HHS section [[link removed]] of the executive branch tracker.
The Birthright Citizenship case has been scheduled for oral arguments at the U.S. Supreme Court on April 1. Dozens of amicus briefs have been submitted and are available at supremecourt.gov [[link removed]] . In other amicus news, public health organizations and scholars [[link removed]] and advocates [[link removed]] filed amicus briefs urging the Rhode Island federal court to make permanent its order that blocked the Trump administration’s July 2025 notices restricting eligibility to many federal programs based on immigration status.
