WE ARE MONTANA STANDS WITH PUBLIC HEALTH LEADERS

Dr. Lori Drumm, a family practitioner at Deer Lodge Medical Center, resigned from her position as Powell County's state-mandated public health officer after an angry group confronted her about the cancellation of the Tri-County Fair rodeo due to coronavirus risks.

As COVID-19 continues to spike across Montana, healthcare officials are being harassed and intimidated over shut down orders and mask mandates. Facing unprecedented pressures, several have left their posts. The loss of their expertise is a huge blow for our state. Our healthcare workers and health officials are our cavalry in the war against this virus. As they work tirelessly to protect and save our lives, we need to support them.

"An angry group came to my place of employment. I can't control that from happening. But I can control the reason they want to come here and see me. So I felt I had to resign so that wouldn't happen again. I was concerned about the safety of the hospital."

A small rally against the Governor's July mask mandate at the state Capitol.

Wide adoption of mask wearing reduces COVID transmission up to 80%. Ignoring health experts' recommendations puts us all at risk.

We Are Montana has been equipping public health officials and frontline health workers with the tools and metrics needed to implement effective COVID-19 response.  Last week, along with national pandemic experts from COVID Local and Dr. Greg Holzman, State Medical Officer for Montana DPHHS, we delivered response training and tools to over 60 public health officials across the state.

“I think there is a message coming out from our public health officer and Dr. Fauci (Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases) about what is needed to stop this pandemic and people are ignoring it. I wish people would respect the science, but I feel that our opinions don’t mean as much as people’s internet searches.”
