It’s Manufacturing Monday, folks!
And if you know me, you know this is my favorite topic – I’m always geeked to talk about manufacturing.
From the shop floors in Grand Rapids to the tool-and-die makers in Macomb County to the engineers in Dearborn designing the next generation of technology, manufacturing isn’t just an industry in Michigan.
It’s who we are.
Here, we build.
Manufacturing is about the pride of seeing what you made with your own two hands. It’s a career you can raise a family on. It’s the sound of machines humming before sunrise and the satisfaction of watching a finished product roll off the line. It’s knowing that your work is helping build our country.
That’s the Michigan way.
Now, if you’ve spent any time on factory floors, you know it hasn’t always been easy. At times, it’s been downright brutal.
Factories have closed. Supply chains have shifted. Entire towns have had to adapt and reinvent themselves in the face of global competition and economic change.
But here’s something I’ve learned after spending my entire career in this fight:
Michigan doesn’t quit.
Being the underdog doesn’t scare us one bit. When I was serving as chief of staff during President Obama’s auto rescue, people across the country were writing off Michigan’s auto industry.
They said the jobs were gone. They said the factories were finished. They said American manufacturing couldn’t compete.
Well, Michiganders had something to say about that.
We rolled up our sleeves, got to work, and helped save more than 200,000 Michigan jobs.
That moment reminded the country what Michigan workers are capable of when we invest in them and believe in them.
And we’re still building on that legacy today.
When I helped write the CHIPS and Science Act: it was about making sure the next generation of manufacturing – semiconductor production – happens right here in the United States, in places like Michigan.
Because the future of manufacturing is being written right now.
Advanced manufacturing. Clean energy technologies. Semiconductor production. Aerospace components. Medical devices.
And Michigan workers are ready to lead the way.
When I travel across our state – from union halls in Genesee County to small manufacturers in Oakland County to suppliers in West Michigan – I see the same thing over and over again:
Pride. Skill. Determination.
The belief that building things still matters.
And it does.
Manufacturing built the American middle class. It built the towns and cities across Michigan that still define our state. And if we do this right, it will build the next chapter of American prosperity too.
That’s why I’ve spent my career fighting for this industry.
And every Monday, I like to take a moment to recognize the people who make it all possible – the welders, machinists, engineers, technicians, and line workers who keep Michigan moving.
So here’s to Manufacturing Monday.
Here’s to the builders. Here’s to the people who never gave up on Michigan. And here’s to the future we’re building together.
I’m proud to stand with you.
With grit and gratitude,
Haley
A personal note from Haley 👋
I’m a lifelong Michigander and the daughter of small-business owners. I’ve spent my career fighting for Michigan’s working families – and now I’m running for the U.S. Senate to keep standing up for the people I love.
But here’s the truth: Senate control could come down to Michigan. And Trump and his megadonors know it. That’s why they’re gearing up to spend tens of millions to defeat me and hand this seat to a MAGA Republican.
I need your help to fight back. This race will be one of the most competitive – and expensive – in the country, and I’m counting on grassroots support to win.
If you’re with me, will you chip in today?
