From Scotland, to RAF Fairford, to London, tens of thousands protested on Saturday against the devastating attacks on Iran by nuclear-armed Israel and the US. These reckless actions risk unleashing a catastrophic war across the Middle East.

As we enter Day Ten of the illegal bombing of Iran, the US and Israel are increasing their attacks on the country, including oil depots and other infrastructure. The joint unprovoked strikes have killed over 1,300 people in Iran, with almost 400 more killed in Lebanon by Israeli air strikes. Today, Human Rights Watch reported the use of toxic white phosphorus munitions by the Israeli military in a town in southern Lebanon. Its use violates Protocol III of the Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons (CCCW).

Iran’s retaliatory attacks also continue, causing more deaths and casualties. The Strait of Hormuz remains closed to shipping causing oil prices to skyrocket to over $100 a barrel for the first time since 2022. This is threatening a global economic crisis. Even Keir Starmer has said that a protracted war will impact the “lives and households of everybody.”

Despite this, US warplanes continue to make their way to the Middle East from British bases. Long-range nuclear-capable bombers continue to amass at RAF Fairford. Starmer had initially blocked the use of Fairford for strikes on Iran but has since buckled to pressure from Donald Trump.

These protests are absolutely critical if we are to build public opposition to end Trump’s deadly war drive – and stop Britain’s active military involvement in an illegal war. Speaking at the London demonstration which rallied at the US Embassy, CND General Secretary Sophie Bolt spoke about the nuclear hypocrisy behind the illegal attacks on Iran and called on Keir Starmer to refuse permission for the US to use British bases.
