This is as much about racial and gender justice as it is about economic justice: women, immigrants, and Black and Latinx workers are more likely to be workers on the frontlines. Black and brown communities have suffered disproportionate cases and deaths during this public health crisis, exposing the structural failures that have made them more vulnerable during this pandemic.
The fight against COVID-19 is far from over. Case numbers, hospitalizations, and deaths are surging to new heights throughout the country. We have seen that we cannot rely on the goodwill of employers or their customers to protect workers. A law with strong enforcement mechanisms will ensure that our workers are protected during this pandemic and in the future. Join us to let our state legislators know that our message is loud and clear: stop a second wave of COVID-19 and protect workers now!
