Announcing an Update to our Mission
In recent months, a global pandemic and national economic crisis coupled with protests against racism in America moved the nation's discourse on race relations to the forefront. These events urged the Foundation to bring attention to important economic, social, and racial justice issues in early care and education (ECE), especially those pertinent to our current programmatic direction to strengthen the ECE workforce.

In June, the Foundation released a statement relevant to the crucial system changes needed in ECE, We Demand Justice for Early Childhood Educators ([link removed]) . This statement called for access to professional preparation and compensation, as well as opportunities for ongoing professional learning and advancement, for early educators who have been systemically denied these provisions as a result of institutionalized racism. High-quality ECE programs achieving stronger child outcomes are not possible without competent and supported early educators who are valued as professionals.

We realize that it is time to be explicit about the realities of poverty, racism, discrimination, and prejudice. Therefore, we are pleased to release the Foundation's updated Mission statement, which will guide the continued development of our organizational culture and grantmaking strategy.
