Hi, Porcupine

Recently, something happened on my work commute to remind me of New Hampshire's awesomeness!

By the way, my commute is a leisurely 12-minute stroll to the Free State Project’s office in beautiful, vibrant, and walkable downtown Manchester.

A couple of weeks ago, while I was walking home from work, a man yelled out, "Hey! I like your shirt!" Admittedly, I forgot what I was wearing! When I looked down, I remembered I was wearing an old liberty t-shirt that was definitely unrecognizable to the general public.

"Thanks,” I replied.

Of course, that made me want to know more about this guy who recognized my impeccable taste in libertarian t-shirts! So, we struck up a conversation on the sidewalk in front of his client's business while he waited for the client.

The first thing he told me was that he moved to New Hampshire in 2002, inspired by the Free State Project, even before New Hampshire was chosen in 2003!

We talked a bit more, then his client showed up. But before I went on my way, I felt a need to tell him who I was.

"It was nice to meet you... oh and by the way, I'm the new Executive Director of the Free State Project.”

A surprised look came over his face and he responded, "Oh cool! I really like reading your newsletters!"

"Thank you, I appreciate that! Take care."

Upon reflection, it occurred to me: That is what it's like to live in New Hampshire!

  • A random person recognized my obscure, old liberty t-shirt and turned out to be a Free Stater.
  • People open carrying on the sidewalk and at the grocery store are frequent sights.
  • There are more pro-liberty stickers on cars than in other states, including Free State Project stickers.
  • Regular Granite Staters who aren’t even libertarian complain about big government.
  • ...and I'll never forget that time I was in one of the busiest bars in Manchester, looked over, and watched a gay, Republican, State Representative bartender show pictures of himself shooting an AR-15 to some young patrons at the bar - and the patrons loved it!

These experiences with the general public in New Hampshire, all within the last few months, are just a taste of what it’s like when you live in New Hampshire. And when you want to hang out with fellow libertarians, just check the calendar and - even these days - there are frequent events being held in our diverse community of porcupines.

Truly, there's no place else on earth like New Hampshire!

In Liberty,

Vince Perfetto

Executive Director

The Lily Tang Williams Story: From China to New Hampshire

A new Free Stater has burst onto the scene! Lily's story has been an inspiration to so many people who believe in liberty.

She was born in Communist China under the most lethal leader this world has ever seen - Mao Zedong. After an American foreign exchange student showed her the United States Constitution and Declaration of Independence, Lily followed her dreams and made it to America for more freedom.

Eventually, she craved even more freedom, so she moved to New Hampshire for the Free State Project!
