John,

On Friday, the additional unemployment benefits of $600 per week provided by the CARES Act expired, leaving those out of work with $2,400 less per month to pay their rent, mortgage, and put food on the table in the midst of the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression.

What did Mitch McConnell do about it? He and the Senate GOP went home on Thursday for a long weekend.

It’s been ten weeks since the House passed the Heroes Act which would extend these benefits through January. McConnell and Republicans knew this day was coming for months , and yet they still sat on their hands and focused on confirming extremely conservative judges, not helping the American people.

Since the House acted, the COVID-19 pandemic has only gotten worse with the Trump Administration’s complete failure of a response, and millions of Americans are on the economic brink. They simply can’t wait any longer.

Join me in demanding McConnell and the Senate extend unemployment benefits to provide desperately needed relief to workers, families, and small businesses: add your name now. [[link removed]]

We can’t afford to let McConnell and Republicans play politics with people’s lives and livelihoods any longer.

This is just another way in which Mitch McConnell and Republicans have failed the American people, and it’s up to us to replace them this November with leaders who will truly fight for the people.
