August 4, 2020

As we come out of the long weekend and into the month of August, we can take this time to look back on all the good that has happened for our community this year, as well as what we can look forward to in the remainder of 2020.

This past July 20 marked a special occasion, in that it was the 15 year anniversary on the legalization of same-sex marriage in Canada. It is important to reflect on days like this, and to remind ourselves how far we have come to achieve equality, but also, how much work we still have to do to make our community truly equal for all.

This month, Egale is launching Camp OUTshine, a virtual summer camp for LGBTQI2S and ally high school-aged youth. Running weekdays from August 17 - 28 and one Saturday per month from September 2020 - March 2021Camp OUTshine prepares young people from four Canadian regions; Vancouver, Edmonton, Toronto, and Newfoundland & Labrador, to become leaders of tomorrow, by becoming an ally of today.

Camp OUTshine counsellors from each region will work (virtually) with queer youth and allies to build leadership skills in diversity and inclusion, learn about anti-racist and intersectional best practices, create a larger local network, and become leaders in their own communities.

To be one of the 20 youth registered in your region for Camp OUTshine, please visit us at egalecanada.ca
