Dear John,

Earlier this year, my husband Phil lost his battle with
Alzheimer's disease.

He was a remarkable man: As an educational psychologist, he had a
passion for learning. He delighted in music, and was a member of our
church choir. He loved his family most of all, and took a six-week
road trip to visit our children and grandchildren after he was
diagnosed.

I was so blessed to love and be loved by Phil. That's why I
participate in the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End
Alzheimer's®.

This year, instead of a large, in-person gathering, we'll walk
in small teams of friends and family, on every sidewalk, track and
trail across the country. The event will look a little different, but
our reasons for participating are the same.

We walk to raise funds for care and support programs. Our support
group became like a second family to Phil and me, and even in a
pandemic, we stayed connected online and by phone.

We walk to raise funds for research, which was so important to Phil
- he participated in a clinical study, and donated his brain to
science.

We walk because no family should have to lose their "Phil"
to Alzheimer's.

I'll be walking in my neighborhood in San Antonio, and I hope
you'll join me and walk in yours - no matter where you
are, no matter what your reason.
