Putin Is Failing

February 2026 marked the fourth full year of the war in Ukraine, and Russia remains no closer to achieving military victory. In new analysis for The Washington Post, AEI Critical Threats Project Director Frederick W. Kagan and Kimberly Kagan provide ([link removed] ) battlefield data that demonstrate Ukraine’s increasing success at imposing casualties, slowing advances, and degrading Vladimir Putin’s war effort.

This week, President Trump made clear that his goals in the Iran war extend beyond degrading the Islamic Republic’s military capabilities to bringing down the regime itself. In his latest Wall Street Journal column, Matthew Continetti explains ([link removed] ) why the president is so committed to “making Iran great again.”
The high-intensity pace of the strikes has once again exposed dangerous shortfalls in US munitions stockpiles. Mackenzie Eaglen, who has done more than anyone else to sound the alarm on this issue, challenges ([link removed] ) policymakers to speed up efforts to strengthen and expand the defense industrial base.

Strong Foundations: A Playbook for Housing and Economic Growth
States across the country are increasingly moving to address the housing affordability crisis by reducing regulatory obstacles that restrict supply. AEI’s Housing Center has developed an interactive State Housing Supply Legislative Tracker ([link removed] ) that includes information on all in-progress legislation that is totally or partially aligned with the Housing Center’s policy ideas, as well as projections of the number of new homes that could be created. Eighty-five of these bills are currently active across 23 states, with the potential to add 270,015 new homes per year, mainly by reducing lot sizes, increasing home type flexibility, and allowing residential development nearer to nonresidential areas.
