We're ready to take action to protect the Endangered Species Act. Are you? The Trump administration recently announced changes to the Endangered Species Act (ESA) that would:
* Weaken protections for species designated as "threatened";
* Allow regulators to assess the economic impact of classifying a species as endangered;
* Prohibit consideration of the effects of climate change on endangered species;
* Make it easier to remove species from the endangered list.
The administration claims the updates are "improvements," but these changes are feathering the nest for corporations and pro-pollution lobbyists at the expense of the animals most at risk. Countless animals have been brought back from the brink of extinction thanks to the ESA, and with the impacts of climate change threatening ecosystems worldwide, it's critical that the ESA remain intact.

Earlier this month, the Trump administration finalized regulations that effectively erase the Endangered Species Act and will make it nearly impossible to protect wildlife from the rapidly increasing side effects of climate change.
When we think of success stories, the Endangered Species Act is a perfect example. The Act had bipartisan support and was signed into law by a Republican president. It serves as a model of what can be accomplished when we set aside political differences for the common good. It also serves to remind us of the very real impact that climate change has on our daily lives.
The Trump administration - including former Halliburton lobbyist turned Interior Secretary Bernhardt - couldn't care less about conservation and environmental protection. Their only objective is to undermine and dismantle regulations in favor of corporate greed.
The American bald eagle is a symbol of the American spirit - and it is among the countless species have been restored from the brink of extinction because of the Endangered Species Act. Allowing this creature to go extinct in favor of special interests and pro-pollution lobbyists may be the perfect allegory of Trump's America - but it's not ours.
I will continue to our fight to protect our natural resources and put an end to this unbelievably shortsighted and destructive policy maneuver.
More soon,
Jim
