As voting processes are changing this year to keep voters safe during the COVID-19 pandemic, this town hall event will provide an opportunity for Granite Staters to ask all of your questions about how to register and vote this fall.

Words cannot describe how much is at stake in November 2020 - from racial inequality to climate resiliency to healthcare and public safety. Meaningful action in regards to the issues most important to you begins with action at the ballot box. On the anniversary of the Voting Rights Act, New Hampshire civic organizations are joining together for an informational event to make sure everyone knows how to register, how to vote, and how to make sure their vote is counted in 2020. We are thrilled to co-host this event alongside so many other fantastic NH organizations.

What: Voter Information (Virtual) Town Hall

When: Thursday, August 6, 2020 from 6:30 - 7:30 pm

Who: Senator Melanie Levesque will introduce the event. Following the Senator's remarks, voting experts will answer Granite Staters' questions about how to register, vote, and make sure their vote is counted.

Where: This will be an online event - hosted on Facebook Live. It is a free event and is open to all.

Legislative Updates from the Governor's Desk:

VETO - Establishing a NH minimum wage
- this bill would have raised NH min wage to $12/hr over an incremental time period
- NH will remain at the federal rate of $7.25/hr
VETO - Independent redistricting
- this bill would have created an independent redistricting commission and help to reduce gerrymandering of districts historically drawn by NH Republican legislatures
- NH will remain in existing legislative districts, despite norm to redistrict during US Census Years (every 10 years)
VETO - SMART Act
- this bill would have implemented Secure Modern Accurate Registration Technology (SMART Act) to modernize the state’s voting system through the use of automatic voter registration with the Division of Motor Vehicles
- NH voter registration will remain exclusive to municipal town and city clerks' offices
VETO - Dental benefits for Medicaid program
- this bill would have expanded dental care coverage to Medicaid-enrolled individuals, which provides health insurance for over 90,000 adults in NH
- NH Medicaid program will remain inadequate in providing dental benefits to adults

I don’t know what my address will be when I come back to campus. What is my domicile address for my absentee ballot?

If you are temporarily absent, your domicile (voting) address is the last place you physically lived in New Hampshire. You must vote in that town or ward unless or until you move to a different ward in NH. You can provide a different mailing address for your absentee materials.

Do I need a license or car registration to vote?

NO! You do NOT need a driver’s license in order to vote. You do not need a car registration to vote. Your license status has no effect whatsoever on your right to vote. “Election laws do not establish motor vehicle or driving privileges and obligations, nor do the motor vehicle laws establish voting eligibility.” Casey v. NH at 9 (2020).
