An important update from Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington

John,

Wow. It’s not often that we can email with good news these days, but today we can: With an overwhelming response from CREW supporters, we hit our July match goal of $80,000!

Thank you to everyone who contributed and helped us reach our goal, especially during such uncertain times. It is because of your commitment to helping us fight corruption and abuses of power during the Trump administration that we are able to continue this work. Rest assured that we will keep fighting every day until the corruption ends.

Your support has helped power much of our recent work, such as our report presenting a case for the impeachment of Attorney General Bill Barr. His abuse of power in recent months has not gone unnoticed by CREW, or by Congress. He must be held accountable for firing United States Attorney Geoffrey Berman, interfering in Roger Stone’s sentencing, violating the First and Fourth amendment of American citizens protesting for justice, and more. We cannot simply accept an attorney general who is overseeing one system of justice for the president’s cronies, and another one for peaceful protestors.

CREW has also been digging into Jared Kushner’s finances, obtaining documents revealing that the White House had determined that Kushner would have to divest from his holdings in Cadre, a real estate investment company, in order to perform his job. They also confirmed that his maintained interest in the company was, in fact, a conflict of interest. Kushner has still not divested, and we continue to investigate and work to hold him accountable.

Just hours after a problematic interview aired on Friday, CREW quickly filed a Hatch Act complaint against Stephen Miller, Senior Policy Advisor to the president. Miller criticized former Vice President Biden, clearly in an attempt to promote Trump’s reelection. Since Miller was identified with his official title, this is yet another example of a member of the Trump administration likely violating the Hatch Act. We can not allow senior officials to continue to believe that essential ethics laws do not apply to them, and attempt to sway the election with taxpayer resources.

While it may seem like there is little hope during these unprecedented times, CREW is here to keep fighting. We will continue to call out injustices within this administration, file reports and complaints, and work towards a more ethical and transparent government.

Thank you for continuing to stand with us,

Noah Bookbinder
Executive Director, CREW
