John,

It is an honor to receive the endorsement of President Barack Obama. I am proud to have him by our side -- and I’m grateful for your support as we continue building a campaign for change in Texas and the country.

In many ways, the times we’re in now reflect another moment in American history: 2008.

We were a country divided then, too: We were headed for a great recession rooted in Wall Street speculation and corruption which harmed millions of people and crashed our economy.

It forced us to reckon who we were, and what we wanted our government to be. It was clear that we wanted change and needed hope.

And President Barack Obama made history in November 2008 with a simple, hopeful declaration: yes, we can.

“Yes, we can” became a rallying cry for not only Democrats, but Americans across the country. It galvanized progress on health care, making getting insurance possible for millions of Americans. It inspired organizers around the country to take action and fight for progress in our politics. It sparked a generation of young leaders who would later run for office -- and win.

I am honored today to receive President Obama’s endorsement for re-election. I am proud to have him by our side as we fight with hope in our hearts and fire in our spirits to make the change our country needs. “Yes, we can” is the reason we built a grassroots campaign in 2018 and made history by flipping TX-32 blue.

And “yes, we can” is the reason I know we can build on President Obama’s vision for health care and ensure it is accessible for all. It’s the reason why I’m continuing to fight for our community every day: I have hope that the change our country needs can happen, if we work together to make it so.

And I know that together, we can win this fight and the many fights ahead.
