In March 2020, in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, DSA launched a program called the Neighborhood Solidarity Network in order to connect our members with each other on a neighborhood-by neighborhood basis. It was incredibly successful in developing comradely relationships and making sure we could easily share updates about Chapter strategies. Now, we’re expanding the program and re-branding it slightly.
Now, you’re invited to ORGANIZE YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD WITH DSA-LA.
The basic component of this work is creating connections between neighborhood organizers and other members in their area, but that’s just the beginning. As we build these neighborhood connections, we encourage members to dream and strategize about what it means to build socialism on a hyper-local basis, while still staying connected to the chapter as a whole.
Sign up now, and help us build the socialist LA we all dream of.

DSA-LA Magazine: CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS!
|
We’ve had to get creative about how we can continue to organize, spread our message, and build our movement. As we continue to organize from our homes, creating a new magazine publication for DSA-LA may be one of the best ways to come together and share our message.
We’re looking for writers, graphic designers, photographers, and anyone else with skills useful for a magazine. We’re also open to suggestions: if you have any ideas for stories we should cover, or know of any other great creatives we should get in touch with, please let us know. In these times it's more important than ever for us to come together and fight for change. If you are interested in joining the team, please fill out the form below where you can share your ideas and contact info with us!

We are collecting member opinions on our bylaws and their functioning. Please fill out this survey to have your opinions heard!

Lost Angles Special Event: Salt of the Earth
|
Friday, August 7th @ 6pm – 8pm PST
|
In 1947, after refusing to cooperate with Congress’ House of Un-American Activities Committee by testifying on their involvement in the CPUSA, the artists who would become known as The Hollywood Ten were blacklisted from the industry. A purge of communist sympathizers, union organizers, and other left radicals quickly followed.
Seven years later, member of the Hollywood Ten Herbert J. Biberman directed Salt of the Earth. Based off of an actual 1951 miners’ strike against Empire Zinc Company in New Mexico, it was one of the few independent endeavors in the studio era, highlighting the struggles of Mexican Americans, women, and labor.
The Political Education Committee invites you a screening and brief discussion of the film on Friday, August 7 in anticipation of our upcoming class Lost Angles Part 3: Red Hollywood. RSVP for the link to join, to be sent in advance of the event.

With regular closures leading to mass unemployment and the dangerously irresponsible response to COVID-19 by local public officials, our industry has become more precarious and exploitative than ever. We need a transformation of the industry, but that change will not come from an elected politician or a restaurant boss. That change has to come from the workers, willing to organize and fight for a service industry that recognizes the dignity in our labor.
The DSA-LA Food Service Labor Circle will be hosting an important discussion on the state of the restaurant and food service industry in Los Angeles. We will hear from workers on the front lines fighting for more dignity in their workplace, as well as leftist lawyers who will share important information about the rights food service workers have under COVID, as well as what to do while unemployed.
If you are a food service worker prepared to organize and fight back, join us.
