Democrat,
It’s a shameful pattern. From Donald Trump to Trenton Republicans, the GOP refuses to act responsibly or take any accountability in the middle of a pandemic. They failed to lead and they failed to work across party lines to find solutions.
At the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, New Jersey Republicans had a choice. They could be responsible public servants and work with Governor Murphy to keep our state safe while offering constructive, policy-based criticism. Or, they could totally abandon any sense of responsibility and instead try to exploit the crisis for their own political gain. They chose the latter, and now their total irresponsibility has been exposed. [[link removed]]
There’s no better proof that New Jersey Republicans have completely abdicated any sense of responsible governing than this quote from Republican State Senator Michael Testa. When asked about his party’s efforts to block Governor Murphy’s emergency borrowing plan, which would prevent thousands of layoffs of teachers, police officers, firefighters, public health officials and more, Testa said:
"It's really not up to me to come up with a solution.”
That’s no different from Donald Trump saying “I don’t take responsibility at all” when asked about his administration's failure to devise a national testing program. Trump, Testa and the rest of the New Jersey GOP have no interest in actually solving problems or helping people survive the pandemic. They are willing to risk thousands of layoffs of essential workers AND massive property tax increases just to score political points and try to hurt Governor Murphy. We can’t let them get away with it, and Governor Murphy will not allow these Republican obstructionists to push our state further into crisis.
