News from Congressman Scott Fitzgerald

Friends,

This past weekend, President Trump made the decision to launch Operation Epic Fury against the Iranian regime. The objectives are clear:

  • Destroy their missiles and raze their missile industry to the ground.
  • Annihilate their Navy.
  • Ensure the regime’s terrorist proxies can no longer destabilize the region or the world, attack our forces, or deploy IEDs and roadside bombs that have gravely wounded and killed thousands, including many Americans.
  • Ensure that Iran can NEVER obtain a nuclear weapon.

When it comes to legal justification for these strikes, I stand with President Trump 100%, as I firmly believe in the authority granted under Article II of the United States Constitution. It’s been used by presidents of both parties over the years. There are a number of things that must remain close to the vest in any military operation. Surprise is a major component of a successful operation.

If you’re going to try and make the case that Congress needs to vote before the executive branch takes action militarily, I don’t believe that. Oftentimes, these operations require coming back to Congress to ask for additional funding beyond what is included in the National Defense Authorization Act. That is how the process should work. Congress controls the purse strings. Checks and balances are very much in place.

Bottom line, with Iran and its terrorist proxies threatening retaliation, it’s reckless for Democrats to keep the Department of Homeland Security shut down to protect illegal immigrants instead of protecting Americans. Fund DHS now.

Statement from Congressman Scott Fitzgerald on President Trump’s 2026 State of the Union Address

Last week, I issued the following statement in response to President Trump’s 2026 State of the Union address:

"This year marks the 250th anniversary of our great nation, and over the past year, President Trump’s leadership has delivered real results for American families, workers, and communities. He outlined a clear path to build on the progress he has already made strengthening the economy, securing our borders, and rooting out waste, fraud, and abuse in our government. His commitment to American energy independence has already lowered gas prices to a four-year low, with the Wisconsin average at just $2.53.

"The President also emphasized the importance of protecting our elections, and the House has already acted by passing the SAVE America Act. Eighty-three percent of Americans support voter ID, and this legislation is a critical step toward ensuring every vote is secure. President Trump even called on Senate Majority Leader John Thune by name to get this bill passed in the Senate. This is our chance to protect our elections once and for all.

"Meanwhile, Democrats are choosing to withhold DHS funding, proving once again they put illegal aliens ahead of American citizens. On the contrary, under President Trump’s leadership, border security is a top priority, and for nine straight months there have been zero releases at the border. He also signed an executive order formally designating illicit fentanyl as a Weapon of Mass Destruction in response to the widespread tragic deaths it has caused across our country. Additionally, he called on Congress to pass the Dalilah Law, which would prohibit states from issuing commercial driver’s licenses to illegal aliens. This bill is named in honor of Dalilah Coleman, who was just five years old when she was struck and severely injured by an 18-wheeler operated by an illegal alien in 2024.

"From tax relief to policies that lower the cost of living and support job growth, President Trump’s agenda is delivering tangible benefits to hardworking Americans. He has also strengthened America’s standing in the world. In his first ten months back in office, he ended eight wars, proving that strong leadership at home goes hand in hand with a safer, more secure world abroad.

"Thanks to President Trump's efforts, our nation is stronger, our borders are secure, and the promise of America’s future remains bright."

Multi-Cancer Early Detection Screening

Tragically, about 40% of Americans receive a cancer diagnosis in their lifetime. Seniors are most affected since 67 is the median age of those receiving a cancer diagnosis.

Research shows that early detection of cancer is one of the most important things that can be done to end cancer as we know it. While cancer screening is effective, only 14% of cancer diagnoses are currently found through screenings. Thankfully, a new type of screening, Multi-Cancer Early Detection (MCED), has the potential to detect many types of cancer from a single blood sample. It is important this advanced screening method is made available to those who need it most.

That’s why I was proud to support the Nancy Gardner Sewell Medicare Multi-Cancer Early Detection Screening Coverage Act. This bill would create a direct pathway to Medicare coverage of MCED screenings and future test methods once they are approved by the FDA and shown to have clinical benefit. I am pleased to report it passed with bipartisan support.

As your Congressman, I will continue working to support medical advancements that save lives.

Rep. Fitzgerald Votes to Pass Legislation Lowering Home Energy Costs

Last week, I issued the following statements in response to the passage of two critical pieces of legislation to lower costs for Wisconsinites: the Homeowner Energy Freedom Act and the Home Appliance Protection and Affordability Act.

On the Homeowner Energy Freedom Act:

“Washington should not be using taxpayer dollars as a bargaining chip to pressure state and local governments into adopting costly energy mandates that drive up the price of a new home. This bill rolls back federal incentives that inflate construction costs, strain housing supply, and make it harder for families to achieve homeownership. We should be focused on lowering housing costs, not implementing leftist climate regulations that put the American Dream of homeownership further out of reach.”

On the Home Appliance Protection and Affordability Act:

“Families deserve the freedom to choose the appliances that work best for their homes and their budgets. Under the Biden Administration, federal regulators pushed far-left energy efficiency standards that increased upfront costs and limited consumer options without delivering meaningful savings. This legislation restores balance by ensuring energy standards are practical, affordable, and truly benefit hardworking households.”
