New Commonwealth Grant Program

The Commonwealth recently announced the launch of a new grant program for small businesses and nonprofits called Rebuild VA. The program will provide grants of up to three times the applicant’s average monthly eligible expenses up to a maximum award of $10,000. The application will become available on August 10, 2020.

Eligible entities include those in the following industry sectors: restaurant and beverage service, non-essential retail, exercise and fitness, personal care and personal grooming, entertainment and public amusement, private campgrounds, and overnight summer camps.

Applicants that have already received CARES Act funding from any federal, state, regional or local agency or authority are ineligible for the Rebuild VA grant funds.

The Jennifer Bush-Lawson Foundation teamed up with Two Plates to provide over 2,500 meals to new and expecting mothers throughout the community. Lebanese Taverna has provided their catering kitchen and staff in Fairfax to assist with the cause. The Virginia Hospital Center has been connecting the team with families in need of meals over the past 10 weeks.

If you are a Chamber member and have any stories to share of your business supporting the local community during this difficult time, please tag the Chamber on social media and use the #Biz4Good, also contact Morgan CooperCommunications Coordinator, for consideration to be included in a future e-newsletter.

Morgan Cooper, Communications Coordinator, Arlington Chamber of Commerce

This past May, I found myself feeling slightly defeated searching for a job as a recent graduate in the midst of a global pandemic. If you had asked me what I would be doing post-graduation six months prior, I would have most certainly given you a concrete answer along the lines of “working in a new job at an office full time”. Although I couldn’t quite see an end in sight, resiliency has always been one of the strongest ingredients in my personality. Right as I was about to pivot my search to job titles I didn’t quite love, I came across the Arlington Chamber of Commerce. In a sort of cliché, “stars aligning” moment, I knew I found the perfect balance of my passions in a challenging and fun environment.
