ABC 27 reports: “Budget hearings in the House and Senate just started. They’ll run three weeks and, in theory, move the ball forward, though sometimes it feels like it goes backwards.”
Gov. Shapiro proposed a state budget that increases investments in gun violence prevention. Now, that budget is in the hands of our state legislators.
This week, our state representatives are debating what will stay and what will go in the 2026-2027 Pennsylvania budget. We need to make sure they know that passing violence prevention funding is nonnegotiable.

Even if your representative has already committed to supporting Gov. Shapiro’s budget and its $68.5 million investment in Community Violence Intervention, it’s crucial that they hear from you this week.
If this year is anything like last year, we can expect that extremists will flood the phone lines to demand dangerous budget cuts. We need to refuse to let our voices be drowned out.
